I was discussing possible reasons why one of three sites were not showing up in results with a friend of mine for his celebrity fan web site. He discovered this article above about Google proxy hacking that could trigger a false positive in Google’s “duplicate content” check.

There are some techniques suggested in defending against those proxy sites whether they are intentionally (or un-intentionally) kicking your site off the SERPs.

Keyword research could be wasting time and money, depending on how it is done.

Services like NicheBot provide a plethora of research tools. But are they worth the time and energy? How can you benefit from historical search data, and still come out on top?

Your time is much better spent investing in an easy way to modify keywords at the drop of a hat.

There is no telling when the next “Paris Hilton” line of clothing for your store is going to benefit from all the search action next time she gets video-taped, arrested, or her father’s hotel chain is bought.

I have in the past been a big fan of keyword research, and it is possible with an aggressive campaign to target 2-3 word phrases, even with stiff competition. However, after doing this for one site over a year, my attitude has changed.

It is time for SEO campaigns to get back to the originality of the project. Instead of picking “potential phrases” to target — the “low hanging fruit” — it is much more productive to work on enhancing a site as a business.

I’ve had the opportunity to test a variety of methods and always come back to the same conclusion. Focus on building a usable site that provides value to the consumer, and the world will beat a path to your door.

I would much rather focus my time and energy on building a better tool that has a potential to generate thousands of dollars a month in revenue. Instead of littering the internet, with 10,000 domains that each return less than $2 a month, build something useful that you can be proud of.

Eventually, adsense returns will trail off if nothing has been updated and revamped on a regular basis. While the “article spam” model may work in the short-term to generate some quick cash — it is by no means sustainable in long-term profit without constant attention.

My 2 cents on the question of legitimate vs. paid links.

I look at the issue of “legitimate vs. paid links” from both sides. As a Google user, I’ve noticed a decline in the quality of the serps. What used to take me 1 or 2 clicks, now takes me 8-10 to find what I’m looking for.

On the flip side, having a system that is so heavily weighted on reciprocal linking will naturally encourage people to aggressively seek links, buying/selling, etc. That is part of the SEO game, and I don’t have a problem with it. The problem is when a few off-topic links start changing Google’s “view” of what the page represents.

For profit or fun, the best thing you can do to protect yourself from having mis-categorized pages is to keep “on topic”, and only link to other related sites (regardless of whether or not someone is paying for it). I don’t see the need to rule out “paid links” as being “bad” and a “no-no” — after all, what do you calls that vertical stack of links on the right in Google serps?

Usually, webmasters like to follow modern SEO techniques to boost traffic to their website. It is measured as the most effective technique to increase the rank of a website in search engines. When a user looks for one particular keyword, then search engines show various types of results, such as organic search results, PPC advertisements etc.

Every website has definite objectives behind search engine optimization. Many websites take attempt to increase the number of pages present and optimize them for some very specific keywords which in turn enhance the possibility of sale. Normally, focusing on well-chosen traffic can provide desirable quality of results. It also facilitates advertisers to pull in more business.

Sometimes advertisers think that it is not possible for them to get high rank even if they desire, but this is completely wrong. You can get it, but you have to implement different SEO Techniques. So now you may be worried to know about the various SEO techniques. Here we are going to talk about various SEO techniques that you can pursue to get better ranking. Some of them are:

•	Your title tag should be a exclusive one. Try to use your most targeted keyword in your title tag and use it from the starting of your title. Use different title tag for different pages of your website and write it within definite word length.
•	If you are using any graphics or images in your webpage, use alt tags for those images, so that it will be simply understandable by the user. Alt-tags are mainly helpful for text-based browsers. Use your most targeted keywords or key phrases in your alt-tags. Do not use excess keywords or keyword phrases, otherwise your site may get banned.
•	Keyword density is considered as the percentage occupied by keywords or keyword phrases in a webpage. Manage keyword density in Meta elements of your web page. Do not use the same keyword for maximum number of times.
•	Your page loading time should be short, it is vital for both search engine as well as visitors. So decide the suitable page length for your website. It would be better if you will keep it within 15K.
•	Do not use any bad SEO techniques to optimize your website. Always use ethical methods to optimize your websites. Some of the techniques considered as unethical are cloaking, doorway and identical pages, use of keywords in author tags etc.
•	Make your site design attractive for the visitors. Try to use more text content than HTML content in the web site.

We hope the SEO techniques which are discussed above will assist you in the optimization of your website.

Just few years before the term search engine optimization have come into view. Since that time there is a love-hate relationship, produced by black-hat web masters & the more intelligent search engines. Some search engine optimizers are making brave efforts to rank well in search engines, by influencing the page rank in search results.

Some Web optimization companies are using open source resources for their own financial revenues. Those sites who practice unethical optimization, search engine aggressively black list those pages. The site owners who create automate sites for better ranking are banned by search engines.

A conference known as Air Web has been held to solve the problem between SEO & search engine companies to reduce the damaging effects of forceful web content providers.

Google has imposed web page restrictions for hidden text & it penalizes the non standard web sites which are automatically jamming the search results for 30 -35 days or longer. It allows re-indexing of website which may take a total of 2-4 month. But search engines like MSN & Yahoo; don’t penalize the websites for small quantity of hidden text. Few times before MSN, Search engine usually re-indexed small websites in every 14 days, & same Yahoo also re-indexed much faster than Google. These search engines could require more than a month to index new page on an old website. Today search engines are competing and some have accomplished to SEO industry & they use to organize sponsors & guests at SEO conferences.

For site optimization some major search engines are providing strategies .For example Google has a site map program to help webmasters to study the problems in indexing their web sites and it also provides data on Google traffic. Like this Yahoo has site Explorer that provides the way to submit the URLs for free. It verifies how many pages are in Yahoo! Through this the webmaster can drill down on links to the pages.

What would be the next move of search engines nobody knows? But if the business exists due to the web presence, then it is better to look for help from search engine experts & stay unaffected from the love-hate relationship between SEO & search engines.

Blog is defined as one of the major tools in search engine optimization. It is used to share information online with similar minded people. Blogging is basically done to interact people or to share information relating to a product or the services that a company presents. Websites has to be optimized to get indexed in search engine result pages. Blog commences keywords apart from presenting fresh & original content. Websites agreeable with these conditions are ranked high by search engines. Hence to get high ranked by major search engines it is good to use blogs.

How blogs help to get good page rank?

As we know search engine highly ranks websites with original content. Good blogs rich in fresh &original content. Hence it enlarges the possibility of developing website ranking.

The number of back link it receives is another reason that a search engine relies upon for ranking a website. But if the blog on a website is interesting for the bloggers, popular websites &regular readers there is no need for the blog & no need to receive back links.

A particular topic on the blog makes easy to get back links from related websites &blogs.

By registering in one of the Blog directories, Inbound links can be generated .Blog are syndicated through Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feed & by reporting regular readers.
The updated & edited sites are spidered more by the search engines by helping it in getting indexed almost immediately. Logs are used to point spiders & bots the direction of the website.

Links from trusted sources are more important than links from new websites. Links from .edu&.gov extensions search rankings are particularly increased. Logs & Forums with this addition can be found. One can join the discussions of blogs, forum names & blog comments can get back links.

The structure of a blog makes simple to search engine spiders to crawl through it. The (CSS) cascading style sheets based blogs are trouble free to crawl though &HTML text rich. Frequent updates five times a week or daily basis makes search engine spider’s visit the website more regularly for fresh quality content.

Blog is getting high rank by search engines because blog host application as the changeable type create new page for each entry .Search engine desiring larger site over smaller ones this feature is helpful in increasing the number of pages of the blog, in turn it will rank the top most in search engine index.

These are reasons for the blogs or for the website that include blog generally ranks high in search engine result pages. Now it is quite understandable that the webmasters are using blogs to progress their ranking search engines. It has been found that almost all websites use blogs for search engine optimization.

It is all for one part of the story now let’s move to the other part of the story. Spammers filled blogs with useless comment by which the real reason behind creating blogs got lost. Logs created only for receiving precious link back to unworthy websites as a tool invites spiders to crawl through your page.

The attractiveness of blogs with search engines made it a weak-target for spammers. Spammers filled blogs with useless comment spam and the real purpose behind creating blogs got lost, with blogs being created only to receive precious link backs to undeserving websites. Now search engines have started supporting no track attribute that is applied to the links in a blog. It is a way of telling the search engines that the web site owner, does not, in any way, associated with or supported the link.

Blogs are one of the best ways to add the point content to your website. At the same time, it is essential not to allow the blog to be spammed. A particular work on the blog can make it an effective tool in search engine optimization.

Search Marketing is a necessary step to make sites more visible in the Internet.

But do they really know what they are doing?

Recentely I came across a PPC report for a campaign that a large media group had done for a large food company in Portugal. They had terrible CTRs, very bad ad copy, absolutely no focus, bad keyword choice… it was really astounding how bad the campaign was. The worst thing was that at the end of the report they recommended changes for the future, recommendations they should have followed themselves…

Saying PR value is worthless…I don’t see it as black and white.

PR is a good indicator of past performance and one of the only tangible methods Google gives us in measuring a link’s worth.

And 1999? try 2003, 2005 - a high pagerank link would’ve still got you pretty high up in the serps…it isn’t as antiquated a reasoning as you claim.

To say “pagerank is dead” is just as bad as saying “pagerank is the only thing that matters”.

Too many times in SEO people focus on what the search engines want, resulting in use MFA sites that might make you a few clicks by unaware visitors - think about those parked domains that display search engine results all using the same template - who on earth would say that is a “good site, worth visiting again” - nobody in their right mind or with any internet savviness.

SEO is a big deal, worldwide, as businesses realize that consumers no longer have access to products only through their phisical stores. Someone in China can order a product from the US and get it in a few days, if he or she is willing to pay for the extra speed.

This is a radical shift and those who don’t see it, will pay the price. The online world is becoming more and more competitive and you won’t get new costumers using old tactics anymore.

Sure, in the US this is clear cut. You need a site, a well designed, accessible site, with fresh content and preferebly with a blog inside to create buzz and interest in your products, you need online marketing campaigns and a creative approach to sell.

Europe, on the other hand, has always been a more conservative market. At least the old europe. We are slowly realizing the online potencial for growth and the erasing of borders that comes with universal access to the Internet. Someone in Portugal can sell directly to a client in Bruxels, Amsterdam, Cape City our Korea. It’s really amazing.

In Portugal Internet access is much better than, say, 10 years ago. But only the younger generation accepts it without question. Baby boomers are reluctant. And Baby boomers run big companies. Usually they still invest a lot of money on traditional marketing and see the online world as something small and not really that important.

The thing is. Costumers don’t see it that way. More and more people here are researching produts online, even if they end up buying them in a store. Those people are valuable clients.

Today there is only one SEO company in Portugal: www.searchmarketing.pt. Other companies have online marketing services, but are usually web design firms as well, so they are not as focused.

Recentely a directory here began a seo contest. It’s called “esquillo seocontest”. You can find out more about our perspective on SEO here: esquillo seocontest. It’s the first portuguese seo contest and we hope it enlightens more people to the reality of SEO. Sites must be visible online, and people searching for products are extremelly valuable costumers for businesses.
