Continous Directory Submission Partnership - October Special

Tired of wasting time digging for relavant directories and submitting forms?

I will submit your site on a regular basis for a low monthly fee.
I will provide a monthly report of link submission results for an ongoing rate of $100/month.

The number varies. I go through a large list - around 800 to 1000 to start (depending on the category) and weed out the ones that do not accept free links. Of course if you’re willing to front a budget I can include various pay sites as well.

Once the initial submitting is done, I continuously watch for new sites.

The main advantages are that I do it manually (by hand - me personally), I make sure it is submitted to the proper category - which is benefit over automated software, and I keep a record and status of whether it’s been approved, pending or rejected, so as not to duplicate submissions.

Like I said, this deal is meant for people who have better things to do with their time, as I’ve developed a rather quick way to gather the data I need and submit in a timely fashion - while still retaining the human element.

As for the number of links ongoing, it depends on how many new directories get discovered and passed on down the chain to me. My best guess is approximately 100 per week.

If $50 at sitepoint still sounds like a better deal you, then go for it. I’m looking for people who want personal attention and possibly develop an ongoing relationship, seo consulting, and web development expertise for their site. I would be discussing techniques, new strategies, etc. over the phone on a weekly basis.

Google PageRank Update - October 2006

Google’s Pagerank has once again danced.

I’ve noticed my work-in-progress web development consulting site went from a 0 to a pagerank 1 or 2, depending on which data center servers you ask. This is a bit of a suprise to me, seeing as how I only have 2 maybe 3 links on the internet linking back to it.

Utuxia Consulting has been live for about 3 months now with any real content, although the domain was purchased about a year ago.

My latest online venture has been the gardening tips blog and forum although I’ve been aggressively submitting to link directories, it has yet to show any pagerank.

Google Adwords Playground

There’s been some talk lately about Google’s newly released Adwords playground for testing your adwords campaigns without racking up charges for yourself.

Try searching for your targeted adword campaigns in the search with the “adtest=on” parameter in the url. It’s a handy way to see where and when your ads will show up and how often.

Video Ads Displayed with Google Adsense

Google Adsense now offers video ads for display on your web pages. There are two options, CPM or CPC payouts.

Some other features are new ad formats introduced with several block or square sizes and dimensions.

Click to play video ads, a new ad format for sites in the AdSense network, are now available for the Medium Rectangle (300 X 250), Large Rectangle (336 X 280) and Square (250 X 250) ad formats, as well as the newly launched Small Square (200 x 200) format. If you’re opted in to image ads and using one of these formats, video ads may appear on your pages. Video ads can be paid on either a cost-per-click or cost-per-thousand-impressions basis. Curious about what video ads look like? Visit our Ad Formats page to view samples.

Adsense Forum Optimization with Google

Most of us frequent forums on a regular basis, while many of us run forums. One of the biggest challenges I’ve found is converting my high-traffic forums into dollars. Advertisements can be ignored in the header and footer especially by those who frequent the forum on a regular basis.

This morning I came across the Google Adsense Help Center’s page about making adsense fit your forum.

Above is a sample heat map of the typical forum traffic hot spots where people view and click when visiting a forum. As you can see, it starts to resemble the “F-Pattern” that is commonly referred to when discussing the areas of a page that get the most eye balls.

Yahoo Publisher Network Application

I recently applied to the beta program for the YPN.

It’s been a couple of days, and I have yet to hear anything back from them. I will post an update when they get back to me.

There are several mechanisms that allow you to display ads on your site, most are targeted at Google Adsense users, however Yahoo is gaining grounds in this area.

Update: I was approved by Yahoo on 8/17/06. I have yet to see anything promising on the one political forum I’ve added YPN ads on. I still made more off Google’s Adsense using the same color scheme and placement.

Google Toolbar and Googlebot Crawling

At first look, this sounded like a no-brainer. “Well of course, why not?” you say.

I didn’t think it would be an issue, obviously financial sites I access are password protected. However, I did incidently make the mistake of visiting an admin url that was not password protected during an install for an application on one of my forums.

I didn’t discover it for quite awhile, until I did an “inurl:” search on my domain name, and saw the php error that was triggered as a result. This can be potentially dangerous, as error messages can be revealing to unwanted hackers.

When you do a web-based install that isn’t password protected, it’s a very good idea to make sure you delete whatever you don’t need, or at least password protect them with an htaccess file.

You can also disable the toolbar temporarily.

Backfill Advertising

A quick review of alternateurl.com.

It was easy signup, quick approval, and payout is Net-45 via PayPal only, with a minimum payout of $50, and a 50/50 revenue sharing on backfilled ads.

The concept is a good one to backfill Google Adsense and other advertising campaigns, however I found that the color picker for ads within alternateurl.com was not as detailed as Google’s Adsense. The only choice is primary color and secondary color. With Adsense, you can choose link colors, hover state, etc.

I sent them an email, and hopefully they will reply soon with hope of having this feature implemented.

update: I got an email back, and there is currently no way to run multiple campaigns from the same account, unless all you’re changing is the banner size. To have two different color schemes for ads on my site would require me to create two accounts.

You can however specify multiple sizes, which will work for link units.

Google PageRank Update

There appears to be a Google PageRank update going on at the moment. This blog went from a PR2 to a PR4 - a pretty good jump for one update. Some of my other domains have remained constant, with no pagerank change.

Implementing Google Sitemaps For Your Blog

Recently, I added Google Sitemaps to my web developer blog. There’s a nice plugin for Wordpress that will automate the sitemap creation for you. Then all you have to do is register your domain with your Google Sitemaps account, and create a file that validates you own the domain on your server - ie: google_0234080jljsdf.html, and their bot will visit it immediately.

Once nice thing is that you can instantly get indexed, control how often your pages are updated, and you also get some nice statistics about phrases used to search for your site. Saves having to dig through your access.log looking for Google referals.
