Microformats Cheat Sheet

There’s a new microformats cheat sheet on the loose…

For those new to microformats, take a look at microformats.org, as it explains how you can tag and label things you link to using the “rel” attribute, among others. Some examples include XFN, and hResume, along with hCard - a business card for the web.

New Payment Service on the Block

There’s a new payment service on the block from India, called Wallet365. One of the differences I see between the other players are that the sender is charged a transaction fee, instead of the merchant/receiver. It is currently 10 rs per transaction…

Google Checkout - First Impressions

I join the newly released Google Checkout payments processing, as a competitor to PayPal. My first impressions were mixed.

The ease of opening account was not too difficult, although it did require some very personal information upfront, which I was hesitant to provide until I learned the system. I was unclear if my address was going to be displayed to customers, the signup form says it is, although I find this pretty disturbing if that’s the case. PayPal prides itself on keeping your personal information private.

The buy now button was pretty standard for Google Checkout, although I was disappointed that I wasn’t able to find an out-of-the-box subscription or recurring payment button.

At this point, I have no reason for a single payment button, but will happily welcome a cut-n-paste subscription management interface to Google Checkout.

Accessibility Design

Everyone knows (or at least should be aware) that a good seo strategy starts with an accessible web site.

Testing accessibility can be done with Linux and the Gnome desktop. I’m in the process of installing Gnome Accessibility Toolkit at home to see if I can get the audio version of a web page.
