Google Checkout - First Impressions

I join the newly released Google Checkout payments processing, as a competitor to PayPal. My first impressions were mixed.

The ease of opening account was not too difficult, although it did require some very personal information upfront, which I was hesitant to provide until I learned the system. I was unclear if my address was going to be displayed to customers, the signup form says it is, although I find this pretty disturbing if that’s the case. PayPal prides itself on keeping your personal information private.

The buy now button was pretty standard for Google Checkout, although I was disappointed that I wasn’t able to find an out-of-the-box subscription or recurring payment button.

At this point, I have no reason for a single payment button, but will happily welcome a cut-n-paste subscription management interface to Google Checkout.

Ebay has banned Google checkut. May be they don’t want Google to compete with their own product Paypal. So we have to just wait and see how the market reacts to oogle Checkout.
